Ofsted Outstanding

Uniform

All students are required to wear school uniform. Parents are expected to support students to help them look smart and uphold the dress code. The following school uniform has been agreed by Governors.

The following are uniform requirements for girls and boys attending Babington Academy:

Shirts Plain white cotton shirt with a collar which can be done up to the neck.  All buttons must be done up.  Polo shirts are not acceptable.
Trousers Black trousers, school style. No black jeans, leggings, jeggings and skinny trousers are allowed and trousers with any decoration e.g. gold/silver buttons, motifs are also not allowed.
Shoes  Plain black shoes with no logos or flashes on them. Lace ups must have black laces in them.  Boots are not allowed.
Jumpers or Cardigans Black V necked cardigan or jumper.
School Ties Clip on House tie or Year 11 clip on tie.
Blazer

Blazer with the embroidered Academy logo on the pocket. This must be worn at all times in and around the school unless a member of staff gives permission to remove blazers in lessons only.

Skirts May wear black skirts instead of trousers but plain tights – neutral or black – must be worn underneath. Skirts must be of a reasonable length (no more than 2” above the knee) such as to maintain respectability.
Socks Socks worn with skirts, or worn shown under trousers, must be plain black or white.
Belts These must be plain (not decorative) and small and used only for practical purposes.
Religious Dress Abayas must be plain black. Religious headwear (headscarves, topis, turbans) must be plain black with no decoration on them.
Jewellery and Accessories
  • No facial piercings are allowed at all. Earrings must be no bigger than a 2 pence piece and ear stretchers that are considered to be too big will also not be allowed. A single bangle/bracelet and a single ring may be worn.
  • All jewellery must be taken out for PE.
  • Only school issued badges should be worn on blazers.
  • Headbands must be small and plain black without decoration.
  • Hair slides must also be small and black.
Make up Some discreet make up is allowed but students will be asked to remove make up that is considered to be too garish.

Nails

False nails are not allowed.

Nails that we consider are overly long or sharp are not allowed.

Hair Students must not dye their hair any unnatural colours.  Blonde, brown, auburn or black hair dyes are fine but bright blue, green, red etc. are not.  Extreme hair styles e.g. Mohicans, patterns shaved into hairstyles, etc., are not allowed.
PE kit All students must wear plain black track suit bottoms – no logos, flashes or piping are allowed. Students must either wear a black Babington polo shirt or a black Babington tee shirt. Babington hooded tops are available but these are optional. It is expected that students bring and wear PE kit even if, for some reason, they cannot join in a sporting activity. This is because they are still expected to participate in the lesson in a coaching/leadership capacity

Please note – the Academy provides an approved list of school trousers and
skirts and we urge parents/carers to purchase clothing from this list so that they know that uniform which has been purchased will be acceptable. Please see the attached pictures and information on acceptable trousers and skirts.

Staff reserve the right to ask any student to change their dress or remove accessories if they consider that a student is dressed inappropriately. In addition, if a student’s shirt is showing below the hem of their blazer then they will be required to tuck their shirt in. Infringements of uniform rules may result in internal exclusion.

The Academy holds a stock of all the required items.
