Uniform

Back to Key Information

All students are required to wear school uniform. Parents are expected to support students to help them look smart and uphold the dress code. The following school uniform has been agreed by Governors.

Uniform 3

Students may wear an outdoor coat/hoodie to school but must remove these before entering the school building as they are not allowed to be worn in the school buildings.

Students must have with them a large school bag so that any outdoor coats/hoodies can be placed within them, as there are no cloakroom facilities.

Blazer

Blazer with the embroidered school logo on the pocket. This must be worn at all times in and around the school unless the Principal designates it as a ‘No blazer day’ or member of staff gives permission to remove blazers in the lesson.

Shirts

Plain white cotton shirt with a collar which can be done up to the neck.  All buttons must be done up.  Polo shirts are not acceptable.

Jumper

Black V necked cardigan or jumper.

Trousers

Black trousers, school style. No black jeans, leggings, jeggings and skinny trousers are allowed and trousers with any decoration e.g. gold/silver buttons, motifs are also not allowed. Pockets must not have zips on them.  Socks worn with trousers, must be plain black or white.

Skirt

The Babington Academy tartan school skirt may be worn instead of trousers. With the skirt students should wear either plain tights (neutral or opaque black) or plain black or white socks (not tights and socks). Skirts must be a minimum of knee length, there are a range of skirt lengths available, our longest length skirt is 28 inches.  Babington Academy tartan school skirts can be purchased from Uniform Direct, Leicester.  Abayas or an ankle length black skirt may be worn instead of the school tartan skirt for religious reasons.

Tie

Clip on tie to be worn by all students. Year 11s have a specific year 11 tie.

Shoes/trainers

Plain black shoes/trainers with no logos or flashes on them. Lace ups must have black laces in them.  Any type of boots are not allowed.

Belts

These must be plain black (not decorative) and used only for practical purposes.

Religious dress

Religious headscarves and turbans must be plain black with no decoration on them.  Topis may be plain black or white. Abayas must be plain black with shirt worn on top. Ankle length long black skirts and white shirt may be worn instead of Abayas.

Jewellery and Accessories

No facial piercings are allowed. Earrings must be no bigger than a 2 pence piece and ear stretchers that are considered too big will also not be allowed. A single bangle/bracelet and a ring may be worn.  All jewellery must be taken off for PE.

Headbands must be small and plain black without decoration.  Hair slides must also be small and black.  Any hair accessory must be plain black.

No hats or gloves to be worn in the school buildings.

Make-up

Some discreet make up is allowed but students will be asked to remove make up that is not considered suitable for school.

Eyelashes

No false eyelashes

Nails

False nails are not allowed. Nails that we consider are overly long or sharp are not allowed either.

Hair

Hair colour of students must be of natural colours. No blues, greens, reds etc.

Extreme hair styles e.g. Mohicans are not allowed. There should  be no patterns shaved into hair but parting lines are acceptable.

No lines to be shaved into eyebrows.

PE kit

All students must wear plain black shorts or plain black track suit bottoms – no logos, flashes or piping are allowed.  Students must wear a black Babington t-shirt.  Babington hooded tops are available but these are optional.  It is expected that students bring and wear PE kit even if, for some reason, they cannot join in a sporting activity. This is because all students are still expected to participate in the lesson in a coaching/leadership capacity. Students must also bring a change of footwear for PE (i.e. different footwear to those they are wearing in the school building).

School Bag

All students must bring a school bag every day big enough for students to keep their outdoor coats, books and other school equipment/resources safe.

Staff reserve the right to ask any student to change their dress or remove accessories if they consider that a student is dressed inappropriately. In addition, if a student’s shirt is showing below the hem of their blazer then they will be required to tuck their shirt in. Infringements of uniform rules may result in internal exclusion.
