UGANDA 2020 - The opportunity of a lifetime for current year 9 studentsPosted on: 23/11/2018
The Learning without Limits Academy Trust plans to take a group of five staff and nine students to Uganda in July 2020. There are three places available to Babington Academy students. The exact dates have not yet been confirmed but we anticipate that we will leave around Thursday 9th July and return home around Tuesday 21st July 2020. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a trip that will make a difference to the lives of many young people in Uganda. Please look at the Africa Inspires website http://africa-inspires.com/ to find out more about the aims behind the trip.
The group will be working at The Family Primary School and Kiddawalime School in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The Family Primary School has approximately 400 children aged between 4 and 14 years of age. The students will be working in the classroom and coaching sport. During the visit they will stay in a hotel of international standard.
We estimate that the trip will cost £1,900, which includes flights, insurance, transport in Uganda and bed and breakfast. The school will support students to meet the cost of the trip. The cost to parents will be £300 and students will also be expected to fundraise a minimum of £300. They will be expected to take part in joint fundraising activities and to self-fundraise. The estimated cost does not include spending money. The advice is that students will need about £100 spending money which should be enough to cover buying an evening meal each night in the hotel and all gifts. No special clothes or other equipment will be required.
As you can imagine, many students have expressed an interest in taking part in the visit. Students need to complete an application form which can be downloaded here
The form needs to be returned to Mr Kumar by 3pm on 10th December. Students will then be shortlisted for interviews which will start on 17th December.
We plan to hold a meeting for students and parents on Tuesday 4th December from 5-6pm at school. At this meeting you will have an opportunity to see a presentation about Uganda, look at a proposed itinerary and ask questions about the visit. We will also be able to discuss possible fundraising ideas.
Our pledge says, “I will try my best to take advantage of the opportunities offered to me here.” This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I hope that you are inspired to apply for a place.
