Work experience who, how and why
Work Experience is offered to a select group of Year 10 students. Students take part in a realistic recruitment and selection process involving an interview for potential candidates. We work with the Leicestershire Education Business Company insert website who match placements to student preference.
Student comments from some of those who took part in 2017
I would rate my work experience an 8/10, everyone has determination a really valuable characteristics. If I find things boring I have been resilient , initiated conversations with the people and asked for extra things to do
I learned so much, how to communicate and work with different personalities. I learned tolerance. I have learned to do mundane tasks which enabled me to complete the more challenging ones
I feel confident to work with the staff at the nursery and use my creative skills. I made peg people, super heros; taught the little ones to weave and made mud pies! I met and greeting the parents in the morning. I feel more confident I pushed myself and asked the staff if I could help them
I have been pushed outside my comfort zone. My placement was better than I thought it would be. I got a taste of what it is like in the real life work place
I created an author display board in the library, I created a year 7 ‘go Fish’ activity appropriate to reading level where students pick a fish then find the book. I offered my thoughts on a themed induction day
Don’t think work experience is easy, prepare, be professional, read your paperwork and understand what you need to do
Do it even if its random you will learn things and challenge yourself
Great opportunity, grab it!. Research about the placement, practice the skills specific to the role . SMILE and be friendly
What Employers said, feedback 2017
